Peugeot's Plan And Lineup For Indian Market

PEUGEOT'S INDIA PLANS AND PRODUCT LINE-UP REVEALED.

We hear that the Peugeot Group is betting big on HM's manufacturing facility in Chennai. Previously used by Isuzu for starting its Indian operations, this factory is currently underutilised. Peugeot, by virtue of owning this plant, will require less investment with a ready set-up. Two-thirds of the Rs 700 crore earmarked by the PSA-Birla venture for investment in India will come from the French company while the rest will be borne by CK Birla. The initial plan will be to bring in CKD models based on Peugeot's Common Modular Platform. The CBUs will start arriving at a later date. Even before announcing its intention of coming down to India, the company had already started testing its cars here from as early as 2012. The company wants to use this as a test bed before it launches its products here. The CK Birla Group will help leverage the all-important suppliers.

UPCOMING CARS

First the engines. Peugeot has a 1.2-litre petrol with and without a turbocharger, a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol unit and 1.6/2.0-litre turbo diesels. The petrol engines are called Puretech while the diesels are BlueHDi. All the engines are Euro-VI compliant. The transmission choice ranges between 5- as well as 6-speed manuals and a 6-speed automatic.
The source tells us that the 5-door 208 hatchback will be the first one to come here. Slightly shorter than the Elite i20 at 3,962mm, its main competitor, the 208, will likely be manufactured locally. It will come with the naturally aspirated 82PS 1.2-litre petrol. The diesel being above 1.5 litres may not be available at the outset here. Customers should be able to optfor a manual as well as automatic transmission with both the petrol and diesel engines. The car looks trendy, has a choice of 15-17-inch alloys, a minimalist cabin design and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
The next model is the 308. The 4.2m-long hatchback has been unveiled internationally earlier this year.The previous-generation car came with a Puretech 3-cylinder petrol motor in varied states of tune. The car looks handsome and is likely to be quite spacious too. The boot space too is a massive 470 litres, which can be increased to 1,309 litres with the second row of seats down. A flat-bottom steering wheel and driver-centric central console headline the interior.
Peugeot's SUV line-up in India will include the 2008 and 3008. The 3008 is newer and it even won the 2017 Car of the Year Award at the Geneva Motor Show. This accolade came courtesy of its youthful design, a versatile cabin and an excellent choice of petrol and diesel engines. The 1.2-litre petrol engine is shared with the 208 but has a higher power output of 131PS because of a turbocharger. The 1.6-litre diesel makes between 99-120PS and we expect it to show up first. Needless to say, both the petrol and diesel come with manual as well as automatic transmission options. At 4,447mm long, the 3008 is slightly smaller than the Tucson (4,475mm) and comes with a decent amount of kit that includes front and rear parking sensors, powered seats, six airbags and touchscreen infotainment system with the latest smartphone interfaces.

The third-generation kawasaki Ninja 1000 gets a sharper design reminiscent of the company's supersport offerings. This includes the two-piece fairing which is now wider and claims to offer the rider with increased wind protection. Also new to the Ninja 1000 are the LED headlamps which Kawasaki India says that consumes 50 per cent less power. There is also the LED position lamp.

Coming to the engine, there are no revisions to the Euro-IV compliant 142PS/111Nm 4-cylinder liquid-cooled motor. However, Kawasaki has added ride-by-wire, IMU and cornering ABS to the equation. The transmission is a 6-speed unit with slipper clutch. Kawasaki has revised the suspension (41mm pre-load adjustable inverted forks in front and a remote adjustable monoshock at the rear) for better damping capability. Image result for AUTOMOBILE STOCKYARD

THE GST EFFECT :

                                               KEY HIGHLIGHTS :

                             1. GST rate of 28% decided on automobiles
2.Small,luxury cars to attract additional cess
3.Bikes over 350 cc to have additional cess

The GST council on its 14th meeting has finalised the GST across all categories of goods including automobiles. In addition to the base rate the government has also proposed to levy a cess of  1% & 3% on small cars with petrol and diesel engines respectively.

The base GST rates for the automobile segment has been set at 28% which is broadly in line with overall indirect tax rates at present.
"The rates are as per the expectations of the industry and almost all segments of the industry have benefited  by way of a reduced tax burden in varying degree. This will pave the way for stimulating demand and strengthening the automotive market in the country.

Subrata Ray ,Senior Group Vice President - IRCA Limited ,said, "the prices of relatively price sensitive small cars may increase marginally post GST , while OEMs would pass on the benefit of lower taxes on SUVs and Bigger vehicles to customers. "

Small Cars could take a hit as the GST Council has decided to levy an additional cess of 1% on small petrol cars and 3% on small diesel cars, apart from the 28% GST rate.

Also, the Luxury cars will get more costlier as they face an additional 15% cess besides the 28% GST.
In addition, the 350cc will be seen as luxury goods and will see a new cess of 3%.

This is expected to have a big impact on the automobile industry and could result in price hikes!!

Guide To Turbocharged Engines.

What is turbo?
Basically in general terms a turbo is a part which supplies and force feeds air to the combustion chamber of an engine to generate more power because we know that the more is taken the higher the power output will be produced. A turbo is generally known as turbocharger in automobile sector. It operates only on one principle i.e to force feed air into combustion chamber of an engine. For an normal combustion we require air, fuel, and spark and for safe removal of the fumes after combustion there is an valve to let the gas out from the exhaust. In general cases air is taken from the surrounding and combusted along with fuel from the injectors and spark from the spark plug. In these case we call the engine as an naturally aspirated engine because we take the air from the surrounding. But in some cases like diesel engines where big engines are required to meet the power output of their smaller petrol siblings(a N/A 1.6 litre diesel will produce less or at par the same power of an N/A 1.0 litre petrol engine),we use an turbocharger to generate more power in a smaller engine and that's where magic happens.
  .
Why TurboCharged Engines?
Well, due to cars becoming more compact and different govt policies manufacturers are bound to make turbocharged engines. Another reason why TurboCharged engined cars are more preferred because of comparatively less emissions and a higher mileage with respect to N/A engines. A TurboCharged Engine will occupy less space thus improving space in the interior which gives rise to more practicality which please most of the people. This reasons lead to increase in turbocharged technology.
Significant points.
Turbo lag- it is generally the term given when a person driving a turbo charged car will experience that below a certain rpm the turbo is not working which is because a turbo charger requires high volume fumes to work which can be attained only by reaching a certain rpm.thus the time till the turbo starts to spool up is known as turbo lag.
Supercharged, biturbo are all general terms to describe the level of turbocharging done in that car with each having significant power output.
Although earlier diesel engines used to be the only engines to be privileged to have a turbocharger, but with the increase in performance engines petrol powered turbo engines are being made in a significant rate. Petrol turbo engines are generally more powerful than their equivalent diesel siblings hence also fulfilling desires of the small enthusiasts community.
Popular examples of turbocharged engines used in India is the 1.3L MJD engine made by fiat and is used by a contract by different manufacturers like Maruti suzuki, Chevrolet, fiat itself. With each manufacturers tuning it to extract Maximum power from it. And believe it or not today majority of the diesel engines are this particular one only because if it's abuse free nature and peace of mind reliability.
With an increase in turbocharged technology we can foresee the age of these engines making it presence already.
